ConTech Series: Drones in Construction

Unmanned aerial vehicles, sometimes referred to as UAVs, or more commonly, as drones, are replacing traditional land-surveillance methods and are rapidly changing the way the construction industry works with a recent report from Goldman Sachs stating that construction will be the biggest user of commercial drones in the coming years. In this webinar we will explore drones usage in the whole lifecycle of construction projects – from bidding, investigation and design, to on-site construction, handover and maintenance – with experts and thought leaders showcasing projects using drones and looking ahead to how they will transform the construction sector over the coming years.

This webinar is part of a new series on the future of the construction industry which are taking place over the coming months, and will explore the next big trends, innovations and challenges the industry needs to prepare for.

• Plowman Craven – Peter has over 30 years’ experience in the Real Estate sector, having worked not only in the UK but across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Peter will give thought leadership on the future of drones in the sector and how they will help transform the way future construction projects are delivered.

• Drone Major Group – Drone Major Group are one the UK’s foremost organisations with expertise in using drones in the construction industry having collaborated with clients such as the MOD, Peel Ports, Liverpool City Region and Scottish Power. Robert will give a thought leadership perspective on the enormous impact drones are set to have in construction which will be one of the key sectors that will benefit most substantially from the ‘drone revolution.’

• Cranfield University – Monica is currently leading Research Council (RCUK) and industry funded projects on the use of emerging technologies and statistical science for robust environmental monitoring. This includes the use of drones for monitoring near coastal nuclear power plants (EPSRC/EDF Energy), drones for flood and catastrophe extent mapping and damage assessment (NERC/EPSRC), autonomous on-water vehicles for robust hydromorphological characterisation (EPSRC) and floodplain forest restoration monitoring (EPSRC). She has previously held roles working for the government where she provided advice and guidance on emerging technologies to different Ministerial Departments, including Cabinet Office. Monica will join the panel to give her expert view on the future of drones and other emerging technologies in the construction and energy sectors.
