The fund is worth nearly a billion euros of which city consortium’s can win up to 53 million euros. Emma will give more intel as to how to get involved and bid to win funding and how the research and innovation it funds will benefit our cities. Legal & General Capital – John Cummins, Managing Director of Future Cities Legal & General Capital’s Future Cities business was set up to tackle some of the major challenges facing UK towns and cities, including poor air quality, low housing supply, social issues and congestion. The business has so far invested almost £1bn in 15 UK towns and cities — including Newcastle, Sunderland, Cardiff, Leeds, Bath, Manchester and Oxford — applying an extensive regeneration strategy through several of its funds. Greater London Authority – Nathan Pierce, Head of Smart London and Programme Director of Sharing Cities Nathan heads the Smart London team which is tasked with delivering the Mayor’s Smarter London Together project with the aim of making our capital ‘the smartest city in the world.’ Nathan also leads on the Sharing Cities Programme, a Pan European project between the cities of Greenwich, Milan and Lisbon with the aim of triggering 500 million euros of investment in European smart cities. Nathan will reveal more about these programmes and how smart technology can lend itself to the property and construction sector. MODA Living – James R Blakey, Planning Director Moda Living has partnered with technology provider Utopi, which will see smart building technology installed across the build-to-rent business’s development portfolio to boost the sustainability and wellbeing at its schemes. James will give us more details of how they are making their portfolio of developments smarter – including in their latest development, a £260 million BTR scheme in Hove – and share intel on that’s next in their development pipeline. Connected Places Catapult – Erin Walsh, Director of Built Environment Connected Places Catapult is the UK’s innovation accelerator for cities, transport, and places with the main aim of creating smarter, healthier and more sustainable communities. Erin is the lead of the Built Environment Directorate at Connected Places Catapult focusing on housing innovation, urban infrastructure, and net-zero placemaking and joins us to share her thoughts on the Garden Community movement. Exeter City Futures – Roli Martin, Head of Special Projects, One Public Estate City Fund Exeter City Futures is working collaboratively with Exeter City Council, Devon City Council, Exeter University, Exeter College and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust to help the city become smarter and carbon neutral by 2030.
