However, with the 20th-century decline in national textile manufacturing, many of these heritage and characterful buildings face uncertain futures – but as an industry, we can ensure these buildings are not lost forever. Many are now underused or vacant – and there are many challenges with regenerating and adapting mills to new purposes, but they also bring many opportunities. The opportunity in West Yorkshire (where the event is set to be held) alone is staggering – there are 1,350 mills which are underused or vacant, which have the potential to create thousands of jobs, 27,000 homes and more. Nationally there are fine examples of how to regenerate these buildings into thriving new locations – and at this event, we’ll delve into best practice from those who’ve done it, but we’ll also hear from local authorities, investors and major developers as they share their vision and future plans for these impressive heritage buildings. Ensure you’re part of bringing these buildings back from the brink – and discover how you can get involved during this online conference.
