South Bank Square – who’re speaking at the Northern Ireland Development Plans Event – have confirmed plans to develop a new Build to Rent tower on Belfast’s Great Victoria Street.
The 14-storey building was initially planned to become a hotel, but they’ve changed their approach due to the struggling hospitality sector and instead plan to build 210 BtR homes. [emaillocker id=”71749″]
The £45m project forms just part of their investment into the country – as the firm also move forward with a £100m residential investment into the Waterside area of Derry that could see 750 new homes being built.
Titled ‘The Grattan’ the new development will include commercial units on the ground floor, a lounge and social hub, businesses suits, fitness facilities, roof terraces and gardens – all of which aim to help create a real community feeling. The firm aim to launch a pre-application community consultation process at the beginning of 2021.
Martin Mallon – Development Manager and speaker at the Northern Ireland Development Plans Event – said: “We believe this significant high-profile development offers an opportunity to help address the current widespread dereliction along Great Victoria Street, and will act as a catalyst for the renaissance of this very important part of the city centre. We’re conscious that Belfast City Council has prioritised city centre living as one of their key outcomes in the Belfast Agenda, with the aim of growing the population of the city by 66,000 new residents by 2035. We believe that ‘The Grattan’ offers a fantastic opportunity to help deliver this objective of a sustainable and well-connected residential community in the city centre.”
The scheme will create 350 construction jobs and 40 permanent roles.
